Sandy welcomes visiting walkers

TOURISM would be given a boost through a town accreditation.
Staff at Sandy Tourist Information Centre (TIC) and Sandy Town Council are hoping that Sandy will be the first town in East Anglia to achieve Walkers are Welcome status.
This would strengthen the town’s status as a place for visitors to come and enjoy the outdoors as well as benefiting the local economy.
To join the other 70 towns and villages across Britain with Walkers are Welcome status it must be demonstrated that the idea is widely supported by the community so petitions have been distributed around the town.
Town clerk, Delia Shephard, said: “It’s already a common sight to see walkers with backpacks and boots in and around the town centre and we want to foster this trend and encourage local businesses to accommodate the needs of these visitors.”
