Businesses in Beds not prepared for major catastrophes
People dedicated to prepare against natural disasters say that two thirds of Bedfordshire businesses have no survival plans if tragedy strikes.
Research gathered by Beds and Luton local resilience forum revealed that there is limited preparation for a major catastrophe such as fire, flooding or severe weather.
The forum brings together emergency services, local councils, health and government agencies and others to plan for future protection.
From Monday, March 18 to Friday, March 22 it is business continuity awareness week and businesses are being encouraged to complete a survey to help check their risks and how prepared they are.
Tony Rogers, of the Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Two thirds don’t have any plan to get them back in business and half of businesses affected by a major disaster with no recovery plan will be bankrupt within the following 12 months.
“This could be a major blow to the local economy, local employment and local services.”
