Children well supported to gain knowledge

Children are happy, motivated and eager to learn at a group for youngsters.

Shillington Under Fives group, which is based at Shillington Lower School, has been graded as ‘good’ by Ofsted.

The inspection was brought forward due to Ofsted’s recent investigation of concerns surrounding the security of the premises, supervision of children, changes to the committee and management and the availability of documents.

But the inspector found that the group is meeting the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, although the new procedures put in place are relatively new.

The report says: “Effective procedures are in place for safeguarding children’s wellbeing. Staff update their knowledge regularly and therefore they are fully aware of the procedures to follow if they have concerns about children in their care.

“Children play in a safe environment and the premises are secure. All necessary documentation is in place and easily available.”

The report adds: “Children show good levels of independence and confidently explore a stimulating, well-resourced and accessible learning environment which successfully promotes independent learning.

“They are well supported to learn and develop.”

To improve further the group should use more timelines, props, pictures and photographs.
