IT was murder most horrid for students at an academy.
Youngsters arrived at Etonbury Academy in Arlesey on Tuesday (January 31) to find the corpse of deputy headteacher Gail Patrick in one of the classrooms.
Thankfully it was all make believe as staff arranged a cross-curricular ‘whodunnit’ day for the whole academy.
Every student took part and was asked to investigate who was responsible for the ‘murder’ of Mrs Patrick and how the crime was committed.
Christian Langley, head of science and director of specialism at the academy who organised the day said: “The students knew we were planning a special cross-curricular day but they didn’t know when it would be or what it would entail.
“We prepared the murder scene so they could start work straight away when they arrived.”
The investigations included elements of four subjects.
Mr Langley added: “We planned the day so that the investigation techniques and groundwork would include maths, English, science and technology and art.
“The students didn’t necessarily know that they were studying these subjects when they were doing their detective work though!”
To make the investigation as authentic as possible staff used real-life forensic equipment bought from a company that also supplies the police.
A retired scenes of crime officer also spent the day at the academy to give help and advice.
