Raising cash for forgotten children of India

YOUNG fundraisers spent a day collecting money to help children in India.

The pupils at Everton Lower School have been learning using the creative curriculum topic Life on a Dump. The theme ran throughout the school day for several weeks.

They raised £150 through various fundraising activities on Friday (January 20).

The money will go to the Forgotten Children section of charity, Plan.

Year 3 and 4 teacher, Anna Russell, said: “The children did a whole school mufti day and made a penny line – we wrote rag pickers on the floor in bubble writing and they filled it with coppers.

“There was also a cake stall and a refreshments stall.

“Key Stage 2 had a homework task to make items out of recycled materials to sell. Some made pencil pots out of jam jars. They enjoyed it.”

This was a good opportunity for the pupils to handle money. Two pupils took the role of the manager and the treasurer.

Forgotten Children is Plan’s initiative to protect children from exploitation, abuse and neglect. The charity works with the most vulnerable and marginalised children, ensuring every child gets a good childhood.

A Plan-supported project will take place in the Garib Nagar and Behrampada slums in Central Mumbai. It aims to address health, education, protection and water and sanitation in an integrated way.
