Students enjoy their passport to newspapers
Students at one middle school in Chronicle Country are learning all about the world of newspapers in a special project.
Year Five pupils at Sandye Place Academy in Sandy are busy completing the 2013 Biggleswade Chronicle Reading Passports Scheme.
The project, now in its 14th year, encourages youngsters to explore the newspaper world.
Every participant has received a ‘reading passport’ of exercises to complete.
The challenges focus on the style and content of a newspaper - everything from the headlines to the advertisements - and the students have the chance to discover the wealth of information contained in the pages of a newspaper.
They have also received copies of the Chronicle this term to help them navigate the many fun tasks.
Chronicle editor Jim Stewart visited the school in January to launch the project with a special assembly - he tasked the students to come up with a headline for a fictional story, with some imaginative and fun ideas!
He will be returning to the school before the Easter break to hand out certificates to the successful students.
