The write way to cover sport!
ASPIRING sports writers can show off their talents in a new competition.
Students at schools across Chronicle Country are invited to watch a school sports fixture and then submit a report or feature.
The Biggleswade Chronicle and the East Bedfordshire School Sports Partnership (EBSSP) have teamed up to offer youngsters the chance to shine in the Young Sports Reporter competition.
The contest is open to students in Years 5 to 13 and entrants can report on any school sporting event, competition or fixture.
All submissions must be accompanied by an action photograph of the event which is being covered.
There will be two age categories – middle school (Years 5 to 8) and upper school (Years 9 to 13). The winner of each age category will be made a young press officer.
They will be invited to report on the EBSSP teams who are taking part in this year’s winter and summer School Games tournaments.
Winners’ reports on the games will also be published in the Chronicle and they will be given framed copies of their articles. Entrants can report on any school or inter-school sporting event or tournament, though it must be real.
Articles on fictitious events will not count. Reports can be up to a maximum of 200 words long and entries should include the reporter’s name, age and school.
Winners must also be available to report on the winter and summer School Games on Thursday, March 1 and Friday, July 6.
All entries should be sent to Paul Blunt, partnership development manager, East Beds School Sports Partnership, Sandy Upper School, Engayne Avenue, Sandy, Beds, SG19 1BL by Monday, February 20.
