Young councillors were a class act!
PUPILS from a lower school gained an insight into politics during a special day out.
Children from Shefford Lower School enjoyed a visit to the Shefford Town Council offices on Monday (February 6).
Shefford mayor Councillor Paul Mackin invited the school council down to Shefford House to hold a meeting and enjoy a tour of the building.
The 18 members of the council were also presented with copies of the Shefford Town Plan while the chairman was given a medallion which will also be passed on to future chairmen.
Year 1 teacher Trina Bambridge, who supervises the school council and accompanied the youngsters to Shefford House said: “The children enjoyed their visit greatly and they particularly liked the meeting that was held – they certainly made good use of the hammer!
“They also loved the tour and it was great for them to meet Mr Mackin.”
Mr Mackin said: “It was lovely to welcome the children to Shefford House and it’s always pleasing to see pupils taking an interest in politics at an early age.
“They’re still young but they have shown a lot of enthusiasm.”
The school council at Shefford Lower is made up of representatives from each class.
Meetings are held on a weekly basis and the council has a say on various aspects of school life.
Charity events are a particular focus for the council, and when a new staff member is being appointed it can submit questions for them to answer.
