Fundraising was ramped up


A mum with a serious heart condition raised more than £700 for the Ramp up the Red campaign.

Paula Evetts of Potton brought in the money for the British Heart Foundation (BHF) fundraiser by putting on a family disco.

Ramp up the Red saw fundraisers across the country raise money for the BHF’s fight against heart disease on Friday, February 7.

Paula was unable to attend the event at St Mary’s Church Hall in Potton as she was at Bedford Hospital overnight for a small heart procedure.

But Paula – who is married to Mark and has two children, Kieran, eight, and Cordelia, four – kept in touch by mobile phone.

While she was planning the event Paula contacted companies around Chronicle Country to see if they could help, especially in donating prizes for a raffle.

She was particularly pleased with the generosity shown by one firm.

Her father Dave said: “Paula was taken aback by the response she received, and York House of Potton not only donated a prize but also gave us sausages and bacon that we could use for refreshments on the night.

“This was totally unexpected and we would like to thank every company that helped out.”

He added: “We would also like to thank St Mary’s Church, Potton Parish Lunch, the First Steps toddler group, Shirley and Rachel from the Elephant and Feather, the DJs Ryan and Tom and the St Mary’s Singers.”

Additionally Julie White decided to hold a coffee morning to support the Ramp Up The Red campaign.

The charity is important to her because she has had family members and friends with heart problems.

The coffee morning was held at The Crown in Northill on Friday and everyone was asked to wear red.

The donations and the raffle raised £325.

All Seasons Boutique in Sandy also raised funds for the British Heart Foundation’s appeal.

The shop held a two day event on Friday and Saturday with competitions, a raffle, coffee and cake.

Staff modelled the stores’ spring collection. The activities raised £140.

Owner Babs Morse said: “We are extremely proud to have such great customers who always support our charity events and of course I am very lucky to have a great team who enjoy organising them.”
