A brother and sister have released their first album – with a video shot in Chronicle Country by a horror director.

Michael and Annelise Molloy are Razateur and recorded Worlds Apart at Clifton Studios.

The video for Not My Romeo was also shot at a derelict Jacobean mansion and mile-long, disused railway tunnel in Old Warden.

Michael, of Clifton and Annelise brought in Bedford-born director Kevin Gates for the shoot.

Kevin is best known for his horror films the Zombie Diaries, sequel World of the Dead: the Zombie Diaries and Beds-based The Paranormal Diaries: Clophill.

Annelise said: “At the moment we are unsigned but we hope we are not far from signing for a label.

“We have been playing and recording music together for the last 20 years or so, and we are thrilled to be bringing out the album.”

The duo’s music has a 1980s sound to it, with more modern musicianship and vocals, original melodies and pop hooks.

Not My Romeo includes the main riff from Gary Numan’s Cars.

Annelise added: “We had to make contact with Gary to get his permission, and also that of the record label, Universal Music Publishing.

“But he was fine about it which was great as that style is very much what our sound is all about.”

Other songs include the wistfully melodic Banks of the River and Let’s Break it off, plus the more upbeat Knock It On the Head and No One Wants To Hear the Changes.

These take a gentle poke at the ‘here today, gone tomorrow’ stardom spawned by TV reality shows and the reluctance of the pop industry to take a punt on innovative newcomers.

Michael added: “Some of these songs take a fairly cynical look at the lightning pace of contemporary life in general.

“Yet for all our whinging they would never have seen the light of day were it not for 21st Century technology!”

The pair found the Old Warden tunnel to be an ideal spot for the video.

Annelise said: “The tunnel made a brief appearance in the 1965 film Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines.

“Some 882 yards of solid Victorian architecture proved an excellent backdrop for a pop video.”

Worlds Apart will be released on Monday (March 31) and will be available to download on iTunes. To find out more or to listen to Razateur’s music see www.razateur.com
