A1 speed camera is most successful

editorial image

Speeding motorists are being caught repeatedly by a speed camera.

The fixed speed camera on the A1 at Beeston, which clocks cars as they drive along the 50mph section, caught more motorists than any other permanent camera in Bedfordshire in 2011, according to Police. The camera caught 3,888 motorists.

The Beeston camera was installed following an A1 safety campaign led by the Chronicle in the early 1990s, launched after a succession of serious accidents in the vicinity.
