ANPR team hailed a success

Police make 36 arrests thanks to new technology use

Police are hailing the launch of a dedicated automatic number plate recognition team a success after 36 suspected criminals were arrested on the county's roads last month.

Motorists were arrested for a variety of offences including 14 arrests for vehicle crime, seven for drug offences, four on warrant and three for theft.

Other arrests were connected with a violent offender, burglary, possession of an offensive weapon and driving while disqualified.

Three stolen vehicles were also recovered and cocaine worth several thousand pounds seized as well as a handgun, taser, a hunting knife and three balaclava helmets.

A pair of men were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle after a brief chase and another offender arrested for a similar theft was also found to be wanted for deception offences in London.

The dedicated team hit the road on February 1 to target criminals through their vehicles.
