Approval goes to homes brief
Councillors have given their support to further plans for 150 houses and a hall.
On Wednesday Central Beds Council’s sustainable communities overview and scrutiny committee discussed the development brief for the land east of Biggleswade Road in Potton.
The plan includes space for a community hall – to be funded by Section 106 contributions – and this was a major part of the discussion.
Judy Oliver from Potton Hall for All said: “We have several ideas on what would make it a unique offering for the east of Bedfordshire.
“The challenge in the current climate is the building of a hall for which we are dependent on Central Beds Council on securing a S106 contribution.
“We also ask Central Beds Council to support the hall not only with cash but by thinking creatively.”
Councillor Adam Zerny said: “The hall will be an asset to the community. Wouldn’t it be nice to think this council will find invites to events in Potton?”
Councillor Julian Murray said: “Really it must be part of our policy for not only physical health but also mental health.
“Any support we can give as a council in S106 or other means has to be applauded. It’s nice to see good facilities being provided in areas other than the major conurbations.”
Councillors unanimously agreed to recommend to the executive that the brief be adopted as technical guidance.
They asked that the current level of 35 per cent affordable housing is maintained and that a good number of parking spaces are provided. It will be discussed by the executive committee on Tuesday.
