Arrest after assault
A MAN has been arrested following an indecent assault on a train.
The incident occurred between Biggleswade station and Sandy station when a woman was touched indecently by another passenger.
It took place onboard the 7.23pm First Captial Connect service from Kings Cross to Peterborough on Tuesday, January 24.
PC Karl Palmer, the investigating officer, said: “After the train left Biggleswade a man sitting next to the 34-year-old victim touched her inappropriately a number of times, making her feel uncomfortable to the point where she left her seat and moved into another carriage.
“Fortunately there was an off-duty police officer onboard the service who offered his assistance and detained the man until the train arrived at Peterborough, where British Transport Police (BTP) officers met the train on platform four.”
A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. He was released on police bail and will return on Wednesday, February 22 following further enquiries.
BTP is appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information can call BTP on 0800 405040 quoting reference B7/LNA of 31/01/2012.
