Born in Langford in 1916, Mr Dilley was a parish councillor for more than two decades. He later moved to Biggleswade.

He joined Biggleswade Chamber of Trade before the Second World War and was its president for many years, tirelessly promoting the town and staying involved with its famous Christmas lights.

Mr Dilley was an estate agent and auctioneer in Biggleswade for more than 50 years.

In retirement he remained just as busy with commitments including Biggleswade History Society, the town's Weatherley Centre and being a Fen Reeve, managers of Biggleswade Common. He also toured the district with the Bustles and Beau old time musical hall.

He was a Methodist preacher in the area for decades.

His wife Margaret died two years ago - he leaves sons Chris and Michael. Funeral details have yet to be made.
