Time to have your say on windfarm plan

Consultation begins on proposal to build wind turbines near Biggleswade

Now is the time to have your say on whether or not you want the windfarm proposed for land near Biggleswade.

Consultation has now begun on the application from the Co-Operative Group to build a 16-turbine wind farm on land stretching from Edworth Way to Holme Green and the railway line to the A1.

Developers say the 100m tall turbines, which would last for 25 years and cost around 2million each, could provide enough power for 18,000 homes.

Mid Beds District Council has already written to nearby residents asking for their views, while copies of the application and all the supporting documents – including the noise and environmental impact assessments – are available to view on the council's website.

And the consultation is not limited to residents living in Biggleswade and Langford – with those living in Shefford, Clifton, Southill, Old Warden, Northill, Edworth, Hinxworth, Dunton and Henlow also being asked to have their say.

David Lamb, who heads the district council's development control team, said: "It is very important that people use their opportunity during the consultation period to have their say, whether it be to object or support the application.

"The application comprises 16 wind powered turbines up to a maximum of 110 metres tall.

"The consultation period ends in 21 days, however we may be able to take into account comments made after this time."

To view the application, visit the website at www.midbeds.gov.uk/Planning/default.aspx by searching for the application number 09/00118/FULL or call into the Saffron Road centre in Biggleswade or the district council headquarters at Priory House, Chicksands.

A decision on the application is likely to be made in the summer by Central Bedfordshire Council.
