This event was part of the national Big Lunch initiative, an idea from the Eden Project, held each year in June.

The garden proved an ideal venue and local people of all ages were invited to take a picnic along and enjoy free drinks provided.

A highlight of the lunch on Sunday, June 5, was an air display in the form of a flypast by a light aircraft piloted by members Martin Wilson and his wife Fay.

A spokesman for the garden said: “The aim is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours, annually in June in a simple act of community, friendship and fun.

“The garden is looking good thanks to hard work by the volunteers and it is in regular use for a busy programme of social events.”

The next monthly coffee morning will be on Saturday, June 18 from 10.30am when you can also have a tour. More details at www.duntongarden.org or call 01767 313898.
