Biggleswade friends are on the right trek
THREE friends will be completing a trek on the Great Wall of China to raise money for a hospice.
Biggleswade-based Gail Humberstone and sisters Emma and Rebecca Little are preparing to walk for up to eight hours a day on the wall for six consecutive days in October.
They are hoping to raise as much money as possible for Sue Ryder Care at St John’s Hospice, Moggerhanger.
The trip will be particularly poignant for Emma, 21 and Rebecca, 18 of Sun Street, as their mother Paula Goodfellow spent her last days at the hospice before she died of spinal cancer last November.
Gail, 21, of Swanbourne Close and the two sisters are also members of the Paula’s Kingfishers group which has been set up in her memory.
Back in December the group raised £5,000 for the hospice on the annual Santa’s Dash run.
Earlier this month the Kingfishers also hosted a fundraising concert at Biggleswade Conservative Club where Gail’s boyfriend Nick Moyster played, raising another £1,400.
The friends are now preparing to start their training for the trek and they will also be organising more fundraising events.
Emma said: “We need to raise £9,000 between the three of us before we go. We are putting on a summer event at Wyboston Lakes in June which will include a three-course meal and live music.”
The three are also seeking sponsorship from companies in the area.
