Bin lorry catches fire in village

editorial image

Rubbish collections in a village were brought to a halt when a bin lorry caught fire.

Beds Police and Beds Fire and Rescue Service were called to Moggerhanger when the blaze started at around 9am on Wednesday (October 17).

Firefighters battled the lorry fire, which began when the vehicle reached the junction of Park Road and St John’s Road.

Villager Stephen Wheatley, who lives nearby said: “My neighbour knocked on my door to tell me what had happened.

“I ran outside and saw flames and smoke coming from the lorry.

“It looked like it had started from the inside in the section where they put the rubbish.”
