Boy hands in grenade
Shock as youngster finds unexploded device at nature reserve
A 12-year-old boy stunned his granddad after finding an unexploded hand grenade at a nature reserve.
Youngster William Noble of Potton was visiting the RSPB headquarters in Sandy with his grandparents when he discovered the grenade in the new heath on Monday morning.
His shocked grandad Brian Noble brought the grenade, thought to have dated back to the Second World War, into the RSPB shop.
Staff then immediately called Bedfordshire Police who sent out the bomb unit to carry out a controlled explosion of the device.
Mr Noble, 72, said: "We were having a walk round the bird sanctuary when William shouted over 'Grandad I think I've found a hand grenade,' so I took it into the shop.
"It was a bit of a shock to find a bomb while out walking, but I think William was really chuffed because he's really into war things."
