Another council vacancy has appeared after time constraints compelled a Central Beds councillor to step down.
Iain MacKilligan was the ward councillor for Silsoe and Shillington but he withdrew from the position on Monday (October 1).
He said: “It comes down to lack of time. I’m working out of London and I felt I haven’t been able to provide the support for my constituents.
“I’m unable to deal with calls during the working day and to go to council meetings.”
Mr MacKilligan, who represented the Conservative party, has returned to teaching and is working as a lecturer in public services at the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London.
He said that this meant that he was not always available to fulfil all of the required duties of a councillor.
He added: “I’d like to thank all the parish councillors I’ve worked with, the officers and the people within my ward for their support over the last year and a bit.”
Elections for the Silsoe and Shillington Ward will be held on Thursday, November 15.
Elections for the Biggleswade South seat and the Holme seat on Biggleswade Town Council, which the late Peter Vickers previously held, will be on the same day.
This is also the day of the elections for the new role of Police and Crime Commissioner so voters should already be at the polling stations.
Forms of nomination for either the Silsoe and Shillington ward, the Biggleswade South ward or the Biggleswade Holme ward are available from the returning officer at Priory House, Monks Walk, Chicksands, Shefford, Bedfordshire, SG17 5TQ.
Nomination papers must be returned to the same location by noon on Friday, October 19.
Nominations for the Biggleswade Town Council vacancy are also available from the town council offices.
