Change in the air for wind farm plan

Co-Operative Gropu slashes number of proposed wind turbines in new proposal

A blueprint for a wind farm in Chronicle Country has been cut almost in half after public opposition to the scheme.

The new proposal drawn up by the Co-operative Group has slashed the number of wind turbines from 16 to ten, following consultations with concerned residents.

The group says the revised application, which has gone out for further consultation this week, will reduce the visual impact for people living nearby.

Rob Ellis, sustainable development manager at the Co-operative Group, said: "Combating climate change is a key social goal for the Co-operative Group and we are very proud of our portfolio of renewable energy projects.

"We have listened very carefully to local residents in Biggleswade and Langford through our extensive consultation process and have consequently revised our planning application to reduce the impact of the development as a whole.

"Our success with our wind farm projects to date can be attributed, in no small part, to the way we have been able to work with local communities, involving them throughout the planning process."

The Chronicle first revealed the plan for the environmentally-friendly power plant in April 2008.

It is set to be located on a two mile by 1.5 mile site that straddles the parishes of Biggleswade and Langford, stretching from Edworth Way to Holme Green and the railway line to the A1.

Does the revised plan go far enough to address your concerns? Do you think we should scrap the idea completely, or are you disappointed that the changes will mean less green energy? Send your comments to us at editorial@biggleswadechronicle.co.uk
