A young entrepreneur has not been shy about making a move in business.

Richard Brown, of Blunham, has started up his own removals firm – 2 Me 2 You Removals – after receiving a £4,000 loan from the Prince’s Trust.

The 29-year-old approached the charity after a spell out of work last year.

He said: “I lived in Spain with my mother Tina for five years but we had to return home with the economic downturn there.

“I had a few different jobs but for one reason or another none worked out and then I was out of work for some time.

“Then I saw an advert for The Prince’s Trust in Bedford who were offering young people the chance to start up their own businesses.”

Richard, of Park Lane attended an interview where he was asked about his plans.

He added: “I had done some volunteer work for a removals firm in Shefford and really enjoyed it, and I told them that I had loved helping out and that I really wanted to set up a firm by myself.

“They gave me a Will it Work grant of £100 which I could use to start up the business on a trial basis and see how it went.”

Former Stratton Upper School student Richard – who was born and bred in Biggleswade – then hired a van and took on some work.

He said: “I did a few removals and really enjoyed it.

“My mentor also visited me regularly and we worked on a business plan together that I could take back to the Trust.”

Richard returned to the charity for a Dragons’ Den style grilling.

He added: “I was interviewed by a panel of three who were all business people from the Bedfordshire area.

“They asked a lot of questions, especially about how my business plan was going to pan out.

“Thankfully I had spent some time preparing my plan and the figures with my mentor so I had all of the information they needed to hand.”

The £4,000 loan can now be paid back gradually as the business develops.

The phone has regularly been ringing after Richard advertised the business and he has also hired an assistant.

He added: “I’m really grateful to the Prince’s Trust as they have helped me to make my ambition a reality.”
