Get up and dancing to aid the fight against cancer.
Potton women Lisa Hillier, Helen Leach, Sarah Woods and Faye Murphy are urging people to Stand Up To Cancer on Friday (October 11) by holding a charity Zumbathon.
The Stand Up To Cancer campaign was launched by Cancer Research UK and Channel Four last year to fund research into the disease.
Lisa, is a Zumba instructor, is organising the event. She said: ““I lost my cousin a few years ago and my friend is currently fighting cancer so I wanted to make a stand to help raise awareness and funds.
“Everyone is welcome to attend. There are sessions for all ages and abilities as well as a disco and raffle so come along and join in the fun.”
Zumba is a Latin-inspired cardio-dance workout, which is now very popular.
The dancers will be joined by Dr Hayley Whitaker from the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute.
Hayley, who nursed her mum through breast cancer before losing her dad to bladder cancer, said: “I know only too well how important research is in the fight against cancer so I’d like to urge everyone to Stand Up during October and help us bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
“My mum has been clear of breast cancer for six years now and yet she would not have survived 20 years ago.
“It’s not technology or knowledge that is holding back our fight against cancer - it’s funding.
“Advances in science have put cures within our grasp. But the time it takes to reach these depends on how much money we raise and how quickly we raise it.
“By boosting funding right now, the best research teams will be able to develop new treatments, bring cures faster and save more lives.”
The Potton fundraisers will hold their Zumbathon in neighbouring Gamlingay. To take part go along to the Eco Hub in Stocks Lane from 6pm.
