Distraction burglar breaks into house

A distraction burglar managed to enter an elderly woman’s home after claiming he had damaged a water main.

The man knocked on the 75-year-old’s door in Home Close, Stotfold at around 2.30pm on Tuesday, February 12.

He said he was concerned that damage might have been caused to the woman’s property and she took him through to the garden. On the way back into the house he claimed to have locked the back door.

The woman then set the burglar alarm and left the property but when she returned at around 3.10pm someone had entered the property and the alarm had gone off, though nothing had been taken. Anyone with any information should call Bedfordshire Police on 101.
