Dog owner injured after pet attacked
A dog has attacked and seriously injured its owner.
The emergency services were called to the incident in Fairlands, off Brunt’s Lane in Biggleswade, on Tuesday (September 28).
Jolene Gayle, 26, was set upon by her Staffordshire bull terrier/boxer, Ki, just before 2.20pm.
Police reports indicated that she has injuries to her head, face, fingers and arm.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “She had serious bites to her chest, face and arms and was taken to Lister Hospital.”
Jolene was at her home at the time and it is believed that the attack occurred after she shouted.
She ran to a nearby house to call for an ambulance, leaving the dog in the garden.
The police helicopter was sent to circle the area to ensure that the pet was secure as there were fears that he might attack someone else. The dog was then fastened into the house.
Children were playing in the street’s grass area when the police arrived and officers escorted them inside.
Writing on the Chronicle’s Facebook page, Jolene said: “He was a beautiful dog with issues. I’m devastated about what happened n I’m gonna miss him. I’ll always love him.”
Ki was a rescue dog who had had a difficult life in his previous home.
Bernadette Gilbert, who lives next door but one, wrote: “He was a lovely dog and on the day of the attack still came up to me.
“He wasn’t a nasty dog and no one should judge. He will be missed bless him.”
One woman, who lives in Fairlands, said she saw a lot of police officers in the street as well as an ambulance but she was not aware of what had happened
Bedfordshire Police’s dog team was sent round to the house at 5pm on the day of the attack and the dog was destroyed.
