Evicted playgroup finds a new home

A pre-school has been saved from closure after it was evicted from its previous base with just four weeks notice.

The Fawns Pre–School, which serves Southill and Broom, has found a new building at Southill Village Hall after it was given just one month to leave it previous base at Broom Village Hall.

At the time no reason was given, but this week trustee chairman Sue Jones admitted to the Chronicle it was purely because the pre–school was in breach of its contract.

But the school committee members say they are still angry about the situation.

Secretary Louisa Sheridan said: "We are really pleased with the new building and we are very glad we found somewhere else before we had to close.

"But we are still very unhappy with the village hall.

"The whole thing just seemed very petty and to just have no explanation

or anything is just really unfair."

The group, which still caters for tots in Broom, moved out of its home several weeks ago and is now happily settled into its new home.

Mrs Jones told the Chroncile that she hopes there are no hard feeling, but feels the trustees acted in the correct manner.

She said: "It was purely because there was a breach of contract, they didn't sign their new contract and we received no explanation as to why.

"We also felt that the pre-school isn't exactly thriving, there are only two members from Broom, If there had been more then maybe we would have let them stay."
