Eviction fear drove engineer to suicide
Peter Williams
A TALENTED engineer with a heart of gold took his own life when he learnt that he would be evicted from his home.
Peter Williams, 63, died on the railway line in Biggleswade on Wednesday, February 8.
The Langford resident was due to be evicted from his home of more than 30 years that day, after he accrued debts from the non-payment of his council tax.
Peter’s friends described his skill as an engineer, designing an eco-friendly hand dryer with his own energy recycling system.
A friend, Mike Smith, described Peter as “a real character. Eccentric, definitely, but he had a heart of gold. He was very knowledgable about a wide range of topics and was very enthusiastic about the environment and energy conservation.
“He was generous and thoughtful. Nothing made him happier than to help others.”
