Family fight over dream home loan
Parents take daughter and son-in-law to High Court
A parent' loan to their daughter for her dream home ended in a bitter row at the High Court this week.
The payment of 81,000 prompted a dispute that tore the family apart and ran up a fortune in lawyers' bills.
Property developer, Richard Daniels, and his wife Jacqueline, took their own daughter and son-in-law, Nigel and Heather Lewis, to London's High Court, demanding repayment of 81,000 loans, with interest.
And, whilst ruling in favour of Mr and Mrs Daniels on Wednesday, Mr Justice Forbes said the case was a tragedy for both them and Mr and Mrs Lewis, who live at Park Farm, Old Warden.
The judge said: "The case is essentially a simple one.
"However, it is also a very sad one because the two loans, each of which was undoubtedly made by parents out of love and affection for their daughter and her husband, have given rise to a bitter, protracted and ruinous family dispute fought out in the courts, with no quarter given by either side".
