Family’s fundraiser for Need Project

A family will be completing a three-mile sponsored walk in aid of an anti-poverty charity.

Sharon Igwe-Ahamefula and her sons Tristan, eight, and Asher, seven will be walking from outside ASDA in Biggleswade to Langford Village Hall on Saturday, December 1.

The family, of Barnett Close, Biggleswade are keen to support The Need Project after the charity helped them out during a crisis four years ago.

Sharon, 30, said: “Back in December 2008 we were in a bad way. I split up with my partner and then we were burgled not long after.

“It meant we were very hard up and we were going to struggle to afford Christmas.

“But then The Need Project stepped in and helped to provide food and presents for my children.”

The Need Project has been going for around five years and is run by Kings Baptist Church in Stotfold.

It started on a small scale and has been growing consistently as word has spread.

Food and other vital items are donated to the project by generous members of society and these are then given to those in need throughout the year.

It has distributed 3,000 food parcels over the years and other desperately required items.

The project helps people in need in Bedfordshire and occasionally in North Hertfordshire.

Married Sharon, who has two other young children is keen to recognise the work that the charity does for those who are in need.

She added: “They do vital work for the community and I was so grateful to them that Christmas.

“I was trying to think of ways that I could raise money for the charity with my two sons and the sponsored walk seemed like the most suitable thing to do.”

Sharon hopes to raise £500 or more.
