Police caterer posed as TV executive with firm's cash
A catering manager has been jailed for 15 months after stealing 40,000 in order to live a fantasy lifestyle as a BBC executive.
Lee Mogridge, 27, from Sun Street, Biggleswade even persuaded people to work for him as researchers as he passed himself off as an executive producer.
He would take them to stay in expensive London hotels and claimed he was linked to a show which celebrities regularly appeared on.
In reality, he worked for a catering company employed by Hertfordshire Police and was based at force headquarters in Welwyn Garden City.
At St Albans Crown Court on Thursday, January 8, Mogridge pleaded guilty to stealing the money over a six-month period.
When discrepancies showed up in the catering firm's accounts, auditors looked closely at him and eventually called in the police.
Ann Evans prosecuting to the court he had used his position as unit manager to take large amounts of cash he was supposed to bank each day.
