Firemen on bicycles
Firefighters will be swapping their fire engine for bikes to help two charities.
Eight retained firefighters and two friends will by cycling 200 miles around Bedfordshire.
They will be raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support and The Fire Fighters Charity.
They will put their fitness training to the test when they pedal their way to all of Bedfordshire’s 14 fire stations.
Crew manager Simon Ford explained why he wanted to help Macmillan. He said: “All of my family have been involved in Macmillan since before I was even born. My auntie still does the collections.”
They will leave Sandy station at 6am on Saturday, September 29 and stay the night at Woburn. The following day they will travel around the remaining stations before finishing back at Sandy.
The cyclists have been sponsored by SBSG Signs and Print of Sandy, Steve Frood Autos of Sandy and Pedals of Biggleswade.
The cyclists hope to raise more than £5,000.
They will also have their legs waxed at Sandy Fire Station’s open day on Sunday, September 23. Visit from 11am to 4pm for stalls, demonstrations and more.
