Fundraisers attended a hospital’s special celebration event where they were thanked for their hard work.
Members of the Biggleswade Macmillan fundraising group were among those thanked at Lister Hospital for supporting Macmillan’s appeal for a new cancer centre.
The event was the first time supporters had seen inside the centre, which is receiving its finishing touches and will open its doors to patients later this month.
Eve Newbury of the Biggleswade group, said: “We have been fundraising for the centre for about 18 months so to get our first glimpse of the actual building was fantastic.
“I am honoured to have been one of the first people to see inside the centre and to get a sneak preview of the facilities that will be available to the people of Bedfordshire.
“It’s very exciting to see all our hard work come to fruition in the new centre that is almost ready to start welcoming patients.”
The Lister Macmillan Cancer Centre will double the Lister’s chemotherapy capacity, dramatically reduce the cramped conditions for patients and staff and include a new dedicated information and support centre.
Fundraising for the centre is ongoing.
