Garden Of The Year: you can enter!

Put forward your garden as we launch our annual competition to find the district's best

Here we launch the search for the Biggleswade Chronicle Garden of the Year 2009.

We have teamed up with Frosts at Willington and Central Bedfordshire Council for the contest.

It is free to enter and the categories cover all types of gardens, both big and small.

The overall winner of Garden of the Year will win gift vouchers from Frosts at Willington together with a trophy – and a selection of prints of their garden taken by our photographer.

The judges will be looking for gardens that are pleasing on the eye and have a design that works well in relation to their size.

The variety, colour, overall maintenance and health of your planting will be considered.

And close attention will be paid to any use of composting, recycling of water, encouragement of wildlife, and fruit and vegetables.

There are voucher prizes for all category winners too.

These are the categories you can enter this year:

** small front garden

** large front garden

** small back garden

** large back garden

** community/trade garden

** school garden

** allotment/ vegetable garden

The competition is open to any reader in this newspaper's circulation area. Previous entrants can participate again.

All you need to do is take a colour photo of your garden looking its best, and then complete an entry form, which will feature in the Chronicle and online in June.

The closing date for entries is Wednesday, June 24 and judging will take place in mid-July.

We will be giving you more details over the coming weeks. But for now, get busy making your garden gorgeous!
