Gateway Club celebrates 40 years
A group for people with learning disabilities has been running for 40 years.
Staff and members of the Gateway Club, which meets in the Adult Learning Centre on London Road in Biggleswade, celebrated the milestone with a party on Saturday evening.
Harry Walker has been one of the group’s leaders since it was formed four decades ago. He said: “We had music and dancing and plenty of food. There were quite a few people there. Everybody had a good time.
“We meet every Thursday night and we try to get different entertainment now and again. Otherwise we organise things ourselves. It’s somewhere for them to go.”
Harry added that the group has changed a lot over the different years as people have come and gone. Additionally the lower age range has been raised from 12 years to 16 years.
The Gateway Club meets from 7pm to 9pm every week. If you know someone with learning difficulties who would benefit from the club then they will be welcomed. Just turn up and they can give it a try.
