Getting out of the wrong side of Beds?

Residents of border town considering hopping across the Herts border.

A town in Chronicle Country could be set to hop over the border.

Residents of Stotfold are being given the opportunity to discuss which county would best provide for them after one local suggested a change.

Mick Haskell, 58, has proposed that the town boundaries are altered, officially relocating it from Central Beds to North Herts.

It already has a Hertfordshire postcode.

Central to the discussion is the lack of facilities compared to the increasing number houses.

Mr Haskell, who owns local business CMM Metrology, said: "I have lived here for most of my life. Over the course of my lifetime Stotfold has gone backwards. There is masses more housing and more people but far fewer facilities.

"We get most of our services from Hertfordshire and everyone goes to Letchworth to shop."

Alan Cooper, vice-chairman of Stotfold Town Council, said: "We put the question in the last Stotfold news magazine. We will look at the responses in three or four weeks time.

"There is the feeling that Stotfold and some neighbouring villages have been pretty much ignored by Bedfordshire County Council and Mid Beds."
