Girlguiding leader honoured with community award from High Sheriff

High Sheriff's Citizenship Awards - Gill Lake, Keliyah Morodore-Spencer and Betsy Marley, who accepted the award on behalf of Ann Crome.

Members of Girlguiding Bedfordshire were winners in three categories at the Citizenship Awards presented at The Forest Centre, Marston Moretaine, on Thursday, March 31.

County commissioner Ann Crome, Bedford division commissioner Gill Lake and young leader Keliyah Morodore-Spencer, aged 15, all received awards.

The awards are made to recognise achievement and to honour the positive work of volunteers and community groups, who regularly and freely give their time to help others.

Ann and Gill have both dedicated many hours to giving girls their own space, allowing girls a voice and, in many cases, changing girls’ lives.

Gill said: “I have been volunteering within Girlguiding for many years. During that time I have held a number of posts, both as a leader as well as division commissioner, and it is a real honour to receive this award.

“So many people give of their time to lead girls within guiding and that contribution is truly priceless.”
