A well conducted and thorough tour of the building was followed by tea in the parish church for the group of 24.

The original castle on this site was built about 1200 and Katherine of Aragon, the first wife of Henry VIII, died at Kimbolton Castle in 1538. The building is now the home of Kimbolton School.

Committee member Alan Bailey said: “We have enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at Kimbolton. The great bulk of our group’s work is concerned with researching the local history of Sandy and district, so it was a real treat to get out together and experience the history of a building of national importance.”

The group are planning their next event which is an exhibition of some of their local historical artefacts, at Sandy Methodist Church, St Neots Road, on Saturday June 4, 11am until 2pm.
