In dire need of a good excuse!

April 17, 2009

Visits from grandchildren have been high on the agenda lately and I have to say that both Mrs P and I are just a little tired!

Elliot and his sister Nell visited first and although Nell was most well behaved Elliot displayed every single reason why the phrase 'the terrible twos' is more than relevant.

Halfway on our walk with the kids and the dog around the park Granddad tried threatening behaviour, but "Stop it now Elliot or you won't get an ice cream" failed abysmally as the little one continued to whine.

I got tired of ignoring him and gave up and offered Grandma the opportunity to display her widely known child care skills.

Sadly those skills have wilted over the years and given way to plain tiredness.

Back home Elliot fell asleep on the sofa and his grandparents gazed lovingly at him as if the afternoons experience was just a bad dream.

Late in the same week Emily came to stay and Granddad decided that he could fade into the background a bit because daughter Emma was on hand to help Mrs P.

Emily is a smashing kid, very bright and talented but she can talk for England so my feigned dozing on the sofa didn't fool her.

I resorted to various ploys in order to get a good nap and ended being touched for three meals at MacDonalds during the course of her stay.

So for the moment there is calm in the house but Johanna did mention that there are a couple of dates in their diary that may require our assistance as babysitters.

Needless to say Grandma and Granddad are busily scouring the Book of Good Excuses.
