An interim headteacher is delighted to be at such a friendly and supportive school.

Mr Shawn Fell has temporarily taken on the role of head of Sandy Upper School after the previous head David Stevinson’s sudden departure last week.

He will be joined by Mrs Karen Richardson as the acting head of school.

Mr Fell said that they had been overwhelmed by the welcome they received. He said: “We’ve very quickly come to know Sandy as a school that is friendly and supportive and the students here are wonderful.

“We are absolutely delighted to be here and to have the opportunity to work with great staff and students and the local community.”

Mr Fell, who is originally from Yorkshire, is the head at Harlington Upper School. He has worked there for 10 years, during which time the school has gone from strength to strength.

Mrs Richardson is a deputy head at the school. She has worked there for 14 years and originally heralds from Edinburgh.

One of them will always be in the Sandy school.

Mr Fell said: “The governing bodies of Sandy and Harlington have been sharing ideas and working together for a couple of years.

“There are no plans to link Sandy and Harlington formally.

“The governors will, going forwards, consider the future direction of the school and put in place plans and arrangements, which may include converting to an academy.”

But at the moment no such plans have been made, he said. The pair will remain at Sandy until the governing body put permanent arrangements in place, which may take up to a year.

Mr Fell added: “The exam results in 2012 had many strengths. I’m not aware of the reason why Mr Stevinson decided to resign.”

Mr Fell’s hobbies include running and Mrs Richardson plays the flute.

Parents can meet them at the school on Monday (September 17) at 7pm.
