'Isolation' fear laid to rest by new diversion

Roadworks spark concerns about bus service.

Fears about 'isolated residents' in Langford havebeen laid to rest after a plan to put diversions in place during roadworks was announced.

People living in the village raised their concerns after Central Beds Council announced plansto carry out work in Church Street, meaningbus services on that route would be affected.

Colin Bassett, of Brookside in Langford Road, said: "I am concerned about residents from this area who use the number 82 bus.

"I often use it myself and it is the only way for Langford residents to get into Biggleswade or Hitchin.

"I am worried that we could be left isolated while roadworks are being carried out."

The work will go ahead to introduce new traffic calming measures in Church Street during the school half-term week whichstarts on Monday, February 15.

There were concerns that this would cause problems for local residents travelling in and out of Langford on the bus.

But the council plans to offer an alternative route for passengers.

Tony Spencer, chairman of the Langford Parish Council, said: "The roadworks will go ahead to improve traffic in the area.

"There will be some problems caused to the bus route. However, it will still run on a diverted route, but it will be a disrupted service."
