Keep up to date on first aid for nursery and pre-school staff
St John Ambulance welcomed the proposals – dubbed ‘Millie’s Law’ - and is now urging childcare providers to ensure they have sufficient training in place to meet the changes in legislation.
From September 1, early years providers must have at least one paediatric first aider available on the premises at all times and a certain number of staff with level 2 and 3 qualifications to fulfil the required ratio of qualified carers per child.

Hide AdThe government plans have received the support of parents Joanne and Dan Thompson, who have been campaigning for a change in the law following the tragic death of their daughter, Millie, at nursery in 2012.
St John Ambulance is to run a new one-day emergency paediatric first aid course and the first of these will be held at the training centres in Biggleswade on October 12 and December 8, and Bedford on September 23 and November 10. Visit sja.org.uk for details.
