The day was funded from by staff member Anna Litchfield who ran the London Marathon, raising more than £1,000 to pay for the stadium hire, travel, snacks and events for the children.

The fun on Tuesday, June 14, started with a lap of honour, carrying values banners decorated by each class, showing respect, determination, teamwork, self belief, honesty and passion.

The event was supported by some of the young sports leaders from Alban Academy who helped and guided the children.

Pupils met Eleanor Broome, a junior international long jumper currently ranked second in the world for her age group, who presented all the children with a medal.

Mrs Litchfield said: “It gave the children the opportunity to participate in an event at a major sporting venue and to hopefully provide them with an inspirational event to fuel a love of physical activity and sport.

“Many thanks to all the staff at Great Barford Lower, to the parents who helped and supported on the day, to Eleanor Broome and her mum, to the Alban Young Sports Leaders and Mr Wyatt, to Ian Roberts who provided resources and support, to the staff at BIAS, to all those who sponsored me and of course, to all the children for showing such enthusiasm, superb behaviour and joy when participating in their special event.”
