Look to the skies

ARE you looking for fun things to do with your family this summer? If so an air show could be just the ticket.

The Shuttleworth Collection is holding its August Military Pageant Air Show on Sunday (August 5).

The star of the show will be an Avro Lancaster Heavy Bomber PA474 “The Phantom of the Ruhr,” which is used in the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. This plane was one of Britain’s principle bombers in the Second World War.

A long list of other aircraft are also expected to feature in the show. These are the Consolidated PBY Catalina Flying Boat, the Polikarpov Po2, the de Havilland Chipmunk, the Percival Piston Provost and the Supermarine Spitfire MkXI.

The show will also includes the de Havilland Vampire, the Olympia 2b Glider, the Kirby Kite and the Avro Anson.

This is as well as the formation of nine Tiger Moths, the Ryan PT22 Recruit, the Bucker Jungmeister, the Sopwith Pup, the Sopwith Triplane, the Bristol F2b Fighter, the SE5a Fighter, the Gloster Gladiator, the Hawker Hind, the Deperdussin, the Bleriot, the Blackburn Monoplane Type-D, the Bristol Boxkite and the Avro Triplane.

There will be a Shuttle bus service to the show. It will leave Biggleswade station at 11.30am and it will depart from Old Warden aerodrome at 5.30pm to return to the railway station. The bus costs £5 each way or £9.50 return.

Gates for the military pageant will open at 9am. There will be a historic vehicle parade at 1.30pm and the flying will start at 2pm.

If you book online before 1pm on Saturday, August 4 adult tickets cost £20. They will be £25 on the day. Children get in free.

Additionally there will be an evening air show on Saturday, August 11. Gates open at 10am and the flying starts at 5.30pm.

Tickets cost £15 for adults in booking online in advance and £20 on the gate. Children get in free.
