A police officer is putting her best foot forward for charity.

Michelle Knight from Sandy will be running the Brighton Marathon in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Her fiancé, Brendan Street, suffers from chronic lung disease, Bronchiectasis, and he is treated by cystic fibrosis specialists at Papworth Hospital in Cambridgeshire.

In May the couple, who have been engaged for 18 months, will get married in Greece. They are both police officers for the Biggleswade, Bedford and Ampthill area.

Michelle, 29, said: “This is my first time for fundraising. I’ve chosen a marathon because it’s that bit more physically demanding and it’s not an easy task.

“I do a mixture of the gym and trying to build up the miles. I’ve done 16 miles so far. They say as long as you get over 20 miles you can find the rest on the day.”

Now 32, Brendan has been treated at Papworth Hospital since he was 14. He goes there several times a year.

Michelle, who lives with Brendan in Braybrook, Sandy said: “He’s constantly on some form of medication, mostly as a prevention against becoming ill. But he’s still frontline policing. With the care of the nurses it means he does lead a normal life.

“The only thing is that he gets prone to infections more. When he does get ill it hits him more severely.”
