Neutral response to turbine
PLANS for a community wind turbine have been given a neutral reception by the parish council.
At a well attended meeting on Tuesday (February 14) Gamlingay Parish Council decided to give no recommendation to South Cambs District Council with regards to the proposed wind turbine by the village.
Chairman, Nick Telford-Reed, said: “It was an extremely well attended meeting.
“On the council there were those in favour and those against and similarly in the audience and in the public feedback.”
Councillors decided to leave the decision to the district council because it is in a better position to take more advice on the complex issues involved.

Thursday, February 23, 2012 at 07:47 AMI was also at the meeting and I can see how the councillors made their decision. The proposal was accompanied by a mass of evidence to support the case that it would have no adverse impacts. Given, for example, pages of data from trained ecologists saying in effect 'no problem', when faced wqith a constituent who just says 'it will kill birds' with no evidence then referring to specialists at District Council level seems an understandable response. I think this is a splendid project and would have preferred full support from the council but can understand the decisions made. Rergarding the meeting itself, I was disgusted by the behaviour of two opponents in particular shouting over other people, insulting councillors and behaving in a totally unacceptable manner. There were indeed some valid concerns expressed but there were also some rather narrow minded rants.

Monday, February 20, 2012 at 12:31 PMI attended the parish Council meeting and whilst there were some well presented concerns expressed by parishoners, such as visual impact, effect on wildlife, noise and impact on local aircraft etc I was astonished at the reasons given by two councilors for approving the application. One said that he didn't understand all the technical data presented in the application but all he knew was that as a engineer he thought they were "rather pretty". The other one said that he didn't know what decsion to make so he asked his 9 year old son what he should do and he said "Oh daddy you must say yes". Words fail me.

Sunday, February 19, 2012 at 08:25 AMWe need to get the Government onside, as well as local councils and others, if we are going to stop these wind turbines being built. Are you disillusioned by rising electricity prices, over dependence on the "green" dream [especially uneconomical and inefficient wind farms] and the destruction of our countryside then please register your objection to the Government by GOOGLING "E-PETITION 22958" and following the link. Please pass this message on to Councillors, members of your community and anyone else you know to persuade them to sign up too. If you are really concerned about wind turbines please write a letter promoting this petition to your local Newsletter and to the Editors of your local newspapers.
