No Eco-hub snub

Youngsters say facility desperately needed in village

CONTROVERSIAL plans for a new Eco-hub are being supported by youngsters who say it is desperately needed in the village.

Following an article the Chronicle ran last month about Gamlingay Parish Council's plans for the new energy efficient community facility, members of the village youth club have hit back, saying they need a new centre.

Six members of the council have stood down in the last year with the majority citing the Eco-hub as a contributing factor, and some have said the council is trying to push through plans with no real public consultation.

But members of the youth club say they cannot understand why so many people are against it.

Lucy Rands, who runs the club, said: "I cannot understand why people are so against it, it's an energy efficient building and it's something Gamlingay can take into the future and also lead the way for other towns to follow.

"There are some activities we cannot run like sports activities for the boys so we are very limited in what we can do, we really do need somewhere new and I think the Eco-hub is a fantastic idea."

The youth club currently runs from the WI Hall and holds events ranging from cooking to street dancing competitions, but space is limited.

Mrs Rands added that the club also ran their own public consultation, which saw around 90 per cent of respondents pledge support for the idea.
