Parking has for a long time been something of a thorny issue in Biggleswade.
So news that Biggleswade Town Council has successfully bid to buy the Rose Lane car park has been well received throughout the town.
As Biggleswade’s largest car park and one of a small number where parking is free and unlimited, Rose Lane has long been a popular option for workers, shoppers and visitors alike.
But those who park there regularly will know that the car park land – known as Hicks Pits – is hardly immune to the effects of bad weather.
Even a moderate amount of rain can result in small reservoirs forming in areas of the car park, restricting the space available and meaning that wellington boots are sometimes required to access your vehicle after a serious rain shower!
In very cold weather parts of the car park can also resemble an ice rink.
So surely it is good news that the council is coming on board and is looking at adding an extra floor of parking at Rose Lane, as well as renovating the site.
The possibility of charging is also being considered which is of course controversial, but surely a price worth paying for a higher quality and larger car park?
