Cyclists raise money for a fire engine
INTREPID cyclists will be getting on their bikes to help raise cash for a fire engine in Kenya.
Members of the Stotfold Salvation Army Men's Fellowship have banded together to form Blazing Saddles.
They will be cycling from Kempston Fire Station to Shefford Fire Station on September 4, to help raise cash to send a donated fire engine to Meru in Kenya.
Roy Scott, co-ordinator, explained that they were inspired to help out after hearing a talk about volunteers who had already transported one donated engine to the country, but were looking to make further donations.
He said: "They searched around the country and lo and behold, it turned out that Bedford had one they were prepared to donate. They took it out there and trained ten fire fighters while they were out there.
"Now they want to take another one or two, and although the engines are donated, the cost of transporting them is about 7,000."
