A VOLUNTEER who runs a coffee shop welcomed some 40 guests to the venue when he started displaying artwork there.

Bill Simmons, who runs Cafe Mocha in Biggleswade High Street, served champagne to the visitors at a launch party on Sunday (March 27).

He also welcomed Biggleswade photographer Austen Haines, whose work will be exhibited at the cafe for the next six months.

Bill, who runs the cafe on a non-profit-making basis, said: “We had a great turn-out, people were arriving throughout the afternoon and we must have got through about seven bottles of champagne.

“The mayor of Biggleswade Wendy Smith came down with her husband David, and we saw people who hadn’t been customers at the shop before.”
